Ferry Meadows Open - Sunday 19th October

Welland took 7 boats to compete in the this event and also the Welland v Lakeside challenge. The day started of calmly but the wind gradually increased throughout the day at was at nearly 30 mph by the last race.

Race one was a good start for Welland with simon Hastings taking 1st and Andy and Charlotte Prior a close 2nd. Neal Tack was also 6th. In the junior section (and 14th) overall Tom Bell scored an excellent 2nd place.

The wind had started to build in the second race making the conditions slightly challenging which allowed a local Wayfarer to wind with Simon 2nd and Andy and Charlotte 4th.

By the 3rd race it was survival conditions and many boats didn't venture out. Andy and Charlotte were one of the brave crews to give it a try and soon found themselves in first place after the two lead boats capsized before the first mark. The managed to hold the boat upright for the full 6 laps and because they were one of the few boats to complete all 3 race they retained the trophy they had won a year earlier.

In the Junior section Tom Bell secured 2nd overall despite some boat problems in the 2nd and 3rd races.

Unfortunately Lakeside beat Welland overall due to a stronger middle order
