Welland Yacht Club Open Day

23rd May 2010 11.30am - 3.30pm

Fancy messing about on the water?

Ever watched people sailing on TV and wished you could join in?
Watched the Olympics last year and want to give it a try?!
Ever wondered, "How do they do that?"

Sailing is an exciting, healthy and challenging sport for the whole family; for the competitive-minded individual or for someone who just wants to idle away a few hours in a relaxing environment.

The sport caters for young and old alike and you don't need any expensive clothing or equipment - just a sense of fun and to not mind getting wet occasionally!

Did you know Spalding can offer you the opportunity to enjoy such a sport? Welland Yacht Club has been in existence for over 50 years and provides sailing and boating on the River Welland between Little London Bridge and the A16 road bridge towards Deeping St Nicholas.

The Club is affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association, and has it's own fleet of single-handed and two-man dinghies. All the necessary safety gear and tuition that might be needed can easily be provided by the club. Although we cannot offer qualifications, we have strong links with Tallington lakes that can offer professional tuition, but have no yacht club.

The riverside clubhouse has changing rooms, catering and bar facilities and a secure compound where members can keep their own boats. Over the last 2 years both the club house and the grounds have seen some serious investment of time and money, and both have been improved greatly. Including the purchase of a new club boat for training purposes.

Club events and racing normally takes place on a Sunday, but members can use the facilities at any time they choose (within club bylaws).

So, if you fancy a go, come along to Welland Yacht Club's Open Day on 23rd May between 11.30am and 3.30pm where experienced, friendly sailors can take you for a cruise and show you what fun there is to be had on the river. Plus if you don't fancy sailing, come along and have a gentle ride up the river with one of our motor cruiser members. The bar and kitchen will be open throughout the day together with activities both on and off the water.
