The
Welland Yacht Club has been sailing on the river
Welland in Spalding, Lincolnshire, for nearly 60 years
with an active membership which holds dinghy racing every
Sunday from April until December.
In
addition there is an active cruising section sailing out
Surfleet Seas End, a busy social programme and new to 2012, the club is now a fully recognised RYA Training Centre.
Guests
are always welcome, whether regular sailors or those interested
in taking up sailing for the first time. The clubhouse is
well equipped with a licensed bar, kitchen, ladies and gents
showers.
In addition to sailing days members are often found socialising
in the bar on regular club events. Two secure compounds are
available for members boats as well as storage facilities
for sails and gear.
New
members are actively encouraged and training can often be
given, both formal and informal.
The
River Welland provides competitive, close racing with navigable
water for nearly two miles including two bends meaning all
aspects of sailing are always available.
Safety
is of paramount importance to the club and one of two rescue
boats is always on the water during club events, training courses and races.
